Put Christ First

I memorize scripture. Maybe I should say that I try to memorize scripture. I say that for two reasons. I am very consistent doing it for a while and then I get inconsistent. Also, my brain apparently leaks. I work hard to memorize a verse and come back to it months later and I can’t repeat it correctly. In spite of that, memorizing scripture is one of the most helpful things I have ever done. I can’t tell you how many times, God has brought to my mind a scripture when I needed its guidance. Or to be more precise, God has led me with the scripture I have memorized. Today I worked on Luke 9:23 “Then he said to them all, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

I just typed that from memory and then noticed I left out the word “daily”. So I added it back in. No big deal but the word is a big deal. It is a daily thing. Every day I get up and have a new beginning with God. I make him the leader of my life, confess my sin and look forward to what God is going to do in and through my life that day. I follow Jesus. I choose his will. There is no better way to live.

I have used the Topical Memory System for years. Try it.
