Raising Heroes: How to Build the Next Generation of Faith

Raising Heroes: How to Build the Next Generation of Faith

The next generation matters more than anything. Politicians, companies, and various groups all understand this truth - whoever controls the next generation controls the future. But while the world sees young people as tools to be used, the church must see them as heroes to be raised.

Why the Next Generation Has Ultimate Value

When we're gone, the next generation is all that remains. None of our choices matter anymore when we pass away. The working class takes over what we used to do. This is why the next generation has such significance - not because they're inherently more valuable, but because they carry forward what we've built.

This same principle applies to Christianity and the church. The next generation of believers has ultimate value because they will continue the work of faith when we're no longer here.

Understanding the Spiritual Battle for Our Children

The Enemy's Strategy

There is a satanic warfare against our children. When we see demonic imagery in children's clothing lines, schools pushing gender confusion, or the over-medication of young people, these aren't coincidences - they're strategic attacks.

For every demonic assault against our kids, the church has a responsibility to push back. This isn't just about parents with children - this concerns everyone, because the "next generation" includes newly saved believers of any age.

Good Intentions Aren't Enough

Many parents think spending more time with their children or doing better than their own parents will automatically produce godly offspring. While these are good goals, they're insufficient strategies against spiritual warfare.

We've all seen children from loving homes who still ended up in prison or rebellion. Good intentions alone don't change the world or shape the future. We're not raising our children on neutral ground - we're in the midst of a cultural war for their souls.

The Power of Stories in Shaping Culture

How Heroes Create Imitators

Throughout history, the myths and stories of civilization have ruled cultures. Before electricity, families gathered around campfires to tell stories of heroes and adventures. These narratives shaped children's ideals, morals, and virtues.

"'His Lord said to him, well done, good and faithful servant. You are faithful over a few things. And because you are faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many. Over many things. Enter into the joy of the Lord.'" - Matthew 25:21

Children want to become what they admire most. Ancient cultures filled their children with heroic narratives - the Greeks had Achilles, the Romans had Aeneas, the Sumerians had Gilgamesh. These stories created aspirations and shaped entire civilizations.

What Stories Are We Telling Today?

Today's influencers promote self-help, "me time," quick fixes, and comfort. We've confused valor with vanity, strength with sensitivity, courage with comfort, and conviction with compromise. Then we wonder why we've built such fragile people in an extreme world.

Building a Strong Foundation

The Center Must Be Firm

Like a house foundation, what matters most isn't the appearance on the outside but the strength at the center. You'll know your faith is strong when the center can bear weight - when you're not asking "How do I get time back?" but "How do I give more time toward building something real?"

Maybe it looks like you're crumbling on the outside because you don't have perfect work-life balance, but you're building something your children can aspire to become.

Our Heroes Are Real

The church doesn't lack heroes - we have an abundance of them. Unlike mythological figures, our heroes actually lived, suffered, obeyed, and now stand in glory. They weren't celebrated for doing what everyone else did, but for taking huge steps into what God called them to do.

God Makes Heroes

Greater Works Than Jesus

"'Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he shall do also. And greater works than these he shall do. Why? Because Jesus goes to the Father.'" - John 14:12

Unlike false gods who merely demand greatness, our God creates it. He doesn't just ask us to admire greatness from afar - He calls us to become part of it. You have been given the Holy Spirit residing inside you, making you a temple of the Most High God.

Don't Die a Copy

The greatest crime against God is to be born original and die a copy. God has given you specific gifts and doesn't want you to become something else. He calls you not just to admire greatness, but to embody it.

The Problem with Admiring Instead of Becoming

Most Christians die admiring what they're called to embody. We celebrate courage while living timidly, applaud faith while living fearfully, and honor revivalists while refusing to create revival atmosphere because it might make people uncomfortable.

When people see a Christian on fire for God, three things happen:

  1. They see someone headed somewhere significant
  2. They recognize this person is becoming a danger to the status quo
  3. They understand this person is running from damnation toward something greater

Lessons from Gideon: From Fear to Victory

God Sees Your Potential, Not Your Current Condition

In Judges 6:11-12, we find Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress - hiding from his enemies in a place meant for making wine, not processing grain. He was fearful, using the wrong tool in the wrong place.

"'The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, the Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor.'" - Judges 6:12

God didn't address Gideon's current fearful state. Instead, He called him by what He knew was planted inside his heart - a mighty man of valor.

God Gives Assignments, Not Just Explanations

When Gideon questioned why bad things had happened if God was with them, God didn't provide lengthy explanations. Instead, He gave an assignment:

"'Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?'" - Judges 6:14

Sometimes the answer to confusion isn't more information - it's action. Sometimes the miracle is in your movement.

Excuses Don't Cancel Your Calling

Gideon protested that his clan was the weakest and he was the least in his father's house. But Heaven isn't intimidated by your insecurities. Throughout Scripture, God takes the downtrodden and lifts them to the highest places.

Your victory isn't based on self-confidence - it's based on God-confidence.

Heroes Build Altars Before Legacies

Before Gideon fought publicly, he encountered God privately. He built an altar and offered a sacrifice, which God consumed with fire. You cannot impart what you do not possess, and you cannot raise fiery children with a lukewarm faith.

Life Application

This week, stop admiring the heroes of faith from a distance and start becoming one yourself. Choose one area where you've been living passively or making excuses, and take bold action. Whether it's in your career, your family, your ministry, or your personal walk with God - go full throttle or forget about it.

Remember that your children will inherit either your fire or your excuses. The stories you tell yourself and your family will shape generations. Stop waiting for perfect conditions or more information, and start moving in the direction God has called you.

Ask yourself these questions:

You are a mighty person of valor. The Lord is with you. Now live like it, and watch God do something immense through you that will impact generations to come.
